on the character of Black Widow and misogyny

Always reblog this. A lot of the animals they kill (and they kill over 95% of the animals they take in at their Virginia Headquarters) are killed within 24 hours. Not nearly enough time to deem whether an animal is adoptable or not. They even bought a giant fridge to store the corpses!
PETA is a corporation. Not a charity. Less than 1% of their 32 Million+ annual budget actually goes to directly helping animals. Most of it is spent making sexist/racist/ domestic abuse supporting commercials that won’t even air on television, giving bail outs to convicted arsonists and criminals, hiring/supporting any celebrity that claims to be vegetarian for five minutes, creating campaigns to target children (“Your mom kills animals”), fruitless lawsuits like suing Sea World for violating the constitution, and most recently, making porn. I’m not against porn, but I fail to see how it fucking helps animals.
PETA does not give a shit about animals.
Plus, these assholes have the gall to insult Steve Irwin.
PETA: we pretend to love animals, but all we really love is money.
i’ve tried so many times to tell people that PETA are the worst animal protection organization but they just don’t believe me

That awkward moment when they spell Finn’s name wrong….
I’m kinda hoping this is a fake. Not that the songs aren’t awesome. But there’s a lot of typos. And Paradise By the Dashboard Light isn’t by Nicki Minaj. It’s by Meat Loaf.
If you live in the southeast Houston area, you have to go to Froberg’s. It’s strawberry picking season.
Dear Hunger Games fans,
I love the series, I do. I’m excited for the movie. But please be realistic. None of the actors are going to win an Oscar for it. The only categories feasible for winning? Probably special effects, sound, and art. And costume design. And that’s just estimating going in before seeing the movie.
Expecting Josh or Jennifer to win an Academy Award is a little like expecting Chris Hemsworth or Chris Evans or ScarJo to win one for The Avengers.
I’m not terribly familiar with her acting work (I personally could not be paid to watch Twilight, and I missed [the Runaways, wasn’t it?]) but I’ve have seen her pictures on the front of magazines and online. I have always thought “what odd expressions she makes!” (Admittedly, some of them are- no one can take a perfect picture 100% of the time.)
I’m not saying I’ll never laugh again at some of the faces she makes or at any of the ones that other people make during photoshoots, etc….
But after reading this, I admit, I kind of want to buy the lady a cupcake or something. Good for her. Seriously.
I think that article is a pretty interesting read.
“Stewart is often a target of a specific kind of body policing: the “smile, baby” requirement. When she appears on the red carpet and does not assure us with her teeth that she is simply thrilled to be reduced to a presence, a dress, a posture, she is often the target of harassment for her expression”
“Despite the fact that this attention is often negative and always demanded, despite the fact that it drives her to tears, appreciation of this harassment is demanded. Graciousness is an obligation on Stewart’s part because people are looking at her. The implication for women is that attention is a sign of our value; if we are not attracting it, particularly from men, we are worthless. If we’re harassed and ordered to smile, we’re lucky. We must be grateful for all attention, even that which we find unpleasant. Or we are bitches.”
I get the, “smile! it’s ain’t that bad!” comment at least four or five times a day at my job, always by men, usually when I’m busy doing something and someone catches me off-guard. Read: doing work off to the side by myself, away from other people when someone happens to walk by. Sometimes it happens when I’m out shopping by myself and I’m looking at something trying to decide if I should spend the money or not. Or when I’m paying at a grocery register.
It is infuriating to be expected to smile every moment I’m outside of my house, at all times of the day, despite whatever personal struggles I may be mentally working through at that moment. I smile when I want to smile — when I’m happy, when someone says something funny, when I think of something funny. But never for anyone else’s sake; to do so would not only feel disengenuine, but would be disengenuine for everyone involved. And I don’t make a habit of presenting myself in a way that’s not true to myself.
Chris Pine does this as well, a bit; he hates paps, and he won’t smile for them, but he’ll smile for the awards shows and such. I like Kristen’s approach and fucking A have I lost count of the jerkbag guys at the bar in the restaurant I used to work at who call me over just to tell me to smile but I … idk, I feel like there’s a time and a place. I can’t describe it very well, and I don’t want to come off as douchebaggey myself, but I just feel like if I were in that sort of position, at an awards show or something, I’d be deeply grateful and honored. the paps can fuck right off, but I feel like, as an actor surrounded by my peers, I’d want to be smiling or looking grateful.
and perhaps that’s what’s been beaten into me as a woman, of course, that I’m imagining this for myself. also I think I’d be a bit like a three-year-old if I ever made it into that caliber of acting and probably jump in front of cameras to say OMG OMG OMG I’M HERE OMGGGGG and that’s me and that’s not you or you or that lady or Kristen Stewart, and anyone not me can do what they like.
I’m rambling blahblahblah I originally reblogged this just to say CPine does it, too, yay
I hate this. The ‘smile’ thing. I was having a bad day at work a while back, and my manager just kept telling me to smile. I ended up bursting into tears, I was so tired of hearing it. You never have to smile, unless you feel like smiling.
This is one of the most touching things I have ever read.
Nina you are a beautiful human being, and Shane god bless you.
I love stories like this. Celebrities who aren’t too good for their own fans, who read their own correspondence, and actually care.
